We are pleased to offer the class, Knit a Toque with Sylvia Olsen. This three hour class explores the traditional Coast Salish colourwork knitting technique made popular by the Cowichan sweater. While the class knits together, Sylvia will discuss the history and current pratice of Coast Salish knitting and teach the beautiful colourwork techniqe that leaves the inside of your knitting work look almost as good as the outside! The kit for the class (provided) includes a toque pattern and Prairie Wool Lopi Yarn from Custom Woolen Mills. Sylvia is a knitting story-teller so be ready for an enriching experience of knitting and fun.

About Sylvia Olsen:

Sylvia Olsen of Salish Fusion Knitwear is a knitter, designer, and author with over 30 years experence knitting and selling Coast Salish sweaters from her home in the Tsartlip community of Vancouver Island. She has travelled Canada and the U.S. telling stories of knitting resilience and teaching Coast Salish colour-work technique. Her book, Working with Wool, won the 2010 Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Historic Writing. She will be at the mill for the month of September for our 2017 Custom Woolen Mills Fibre Artist Millstay.
