We are very excited to welcome you back to the mill for another Slow Food Calgary Secret Farm Picnic. In truth, it's not much of a secret because we're getting together around the summer solstice to celebrate GOOD, CLEAN, FAIR food and fibre and we think that should be shouted from the roof tops!! On Saturday, June 22nd we hope you'll join us in the celebration and share in a delicious meal, some fun learning opportunities, and some great company!
What is Slow Food Calgary you ask? Slow Food Calgary is part of an international movement working to prevent the disappearance of local food cultures and traditions, and to reconnect people to the food we eat, where it comes from, and how it impacts the world around us. Their philosophy is that food should be GOOD (high quality, flavourful, and healthy), CLEAN (production that does not harm the environment), and FAIR (accessible prices for consumers and fair conditions and pay for producers). They're a good match to us here at the mill because we believe the same philosophy should apply to textiles.
This year's dinner will once again be prepared by chef extraordinaire Jason Barton-Browne and the menu is, once again, mouth watering.
Mains:
HGB Bison Loin
Blue Mountain Pork Belly & Sausage.
Sides:
Sprouted Alberta Grains, Asparagus, Grilled Green Onion
Blistered Cherry Tomatoes, Cheese Curd, Herbs, Mead Vinaigrette
Poplar Bluff Potato Salad, Egg, Pickled Beans, Lovage Aioli
Nettle Pasta, Roasted Eggplant, Chive Blossom Butter, Gremolata

Mountain Berry Rhubarb Trifle
And if the dinner isn't enough to get you here, each ticket will include a pair of socks made at Custom Woolen Mills and all attendees will be given a brief introduction to natural dyeing techniques before being allowed to tie-dye their own socks. The socks will be dried and ready to take home by the end of the event. The socks come in the following sizes: 4-6, 7-9, 10-12, & 13-15
Socks not your thing? You'll have the option of needle felting and decorating your own set of eco-friendly laundry balls!
Weather permitting, Eliese Watson of ABC Bees will also be conducting a short intro to beekeeping.
You can purchase your tickets here through eventbrite. We hope to see you for dinner on June 22nd!
