Description

The Prairie Wool Medium Soft Spun 100% Wool Yarn is made with 100% pure new Dorse-type wool and a slight twist, giving it excellent wear characteristics and durability. The Sheep Shade colourway is created by blending natural sheep's wool colours. The Standard Dyed solid and heather colourways are created from fibre dyed with industry standard textile dyes.

Price is per 4oz skein.

There are approximately 137 m or 150 yd per 112 gms / 4oz skein. For knitting, we recommend 5.5mm-6mm needles, 6.4sts/5cm.

This is a Medium to Bulky weight yarn according to the Craft Yarn Council's Yarn Standard. You can find their simple guide to yarn weights here.

Please note: due to the small batch nature of our yarns, colour pooling can occur (though we work very hard to avoid it). When knitting large swatches of a single colour, we recommend introducing a new skein of yarn slowly by alternating skeins row for row.

100% Canadian Wool processed at Custom Woolen Mills, Alberta, Canada.

  1. Art

My mom was lamenting that there wasn't any good wool to knit with at her local outlets. She loves Custom Woolen Mills skeins in all of their wonderful colours. Fast delivery to her door in Saskatchewan!

  2. Roz

The lopi is so soft, i cant believe its wool.....until it gets cold that is. I have tried a lot of different wool yarns and really enjoy working with the lopi. I knit a touque from prairie wool. And love it.

  3. Michelle

Absolutely beautiful yarn. Lovely to work with. I own a business making wool baby booties, and this is my go-to product. Colors are lovely, but usually slightly different than shown in the photo, which is the only reason I'm giving 4 stars.

  4. Sibeal

I love this yarn. It's very soft and pretty chunky so it knits up quickly. Just a word of caution: the colors are generally brighter than they appear in the pictures (which is not a bad thing necessarily!)

  5. Val

I love this wool. colors are alive & the lanolin in the wool is softening my hands as I knit.

Sizing

Our sock sizes correspond to men's shoe sizes or are slightly smaller. If you like your socks loose, you may want to pick the next size up. Most men tend to fit into sizes 10-12 or 13-15. Most women tend to fit into sizes 4-6 or 7-9. If your foot size is right on the upper border of a size range, we would recommend getting the next size up. This makes them a bit more forgiving when it comes to washing.
